One thing that I would like to do is come up with a top ten list for ecotourism destinations in NH, specifically the Northern Forest area of the State. There has been an abundance of literature published on how to define ecotourism and sustainability and as a result, I figured I would lay out some rules of how I am going to define ecotourism in this blog.
I think that the definition from The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) says it well when they define ecotourism as this: “Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people.” (TIES, 1990). That is exactly the type of tourism we would like to continue and support in The Northern Forest. Given this, there are several interesting and intriguing tourism destinations that I would like to discuss over the next few months in this blog, and many more that I have yet to discover.
Please feel free to respond with your favorite spot to visit in New Hampshire and elsewhere, or with questions, concerns and criticism about this discussion.
